Every department has abusive labs that many grad students leave. My question: what accountability measures are in place in your dept to address these issues from the student or faculty side?

I’m on the Graduate Studies Committee for my dept and this is a huge discussion right now for our grad students. I totally agree these accountability measures should extend to other career stages.
One huge problem that we noticed was even when we complained and even when my friends doing their PhDs complained we were always met with a backlash and forced out of the lab through a campaign of harassment.
