The thing about being a working-class academic is we got here without private education,the ‘right’ accent,cultural capital,networks etc. And we ended up working alongside (therefore doing better than) ppl who had those socio-economic privileges. They could learn A LOT from us

Maybe it was lower to the privately educated. Whilst there is still plenty to do in the equity of experience to both class of students. I was pleased to see recognition for the barriers that have to be overcome by WC students.
The weight is only applied at the undergraduate level, but not at the postgraduate level. Even then, usually what I find is the interview process is strongly bias towards students from more privileged backgrounds.

Yes the research I did was only at undergrad. Some faired better than others in terms of interviews. Much more still to change without a doubt

I’m of the opinion social mobility is getting worst year by year. It’s mostly a box ticking exercise these days. Just a form of tokenism without ever addressing fundamental issues.
