There is an interesting concept called “Gödelian Information” coined by Miguel Nicolelis for this idea. In contrast to Shannon information, which can be thought of as medium-independent and mathematically tractable, G.I. describes information embedded in a physical medium.

It is named for Gödel because of how his theorem imposed a limitation on formal logical systems in a similar way; however I do not know if the connection is deeper than that. If you are interested, it is described in detail in chapter 3 of “The True Creator of Everything”
