The worst thing about my experience of #LongCovid is the cyclical crushing of hope in full recovery. No matter how cautiously that tower of hope is built and how preciously it’s guarded from collapsing, it does, and u have to start all over again. This in itself is so exhausting.

It took me about 3 years to adjust to CFS / ME and I am still recovering 10+ years later. A lot has been possible in that time, but it has been hard. I found it helped to simplify my life and focus on what was most important / manageable.

I’m hoping that long COVID will result in more awareness for disabilities and health conditions overall, thus improved support. Essentially I’m hoping for a more empathetic society where everyone benefits.

A lot of the health system is geared to ACUTE medicine, while a lot of health conditions are CHRONIC. Sadly, QUALITY OF LIFE + MID-LIFE ailments do not really register in a chronically under-funded and increasingly unequal healthcare system. New metrics & diagnostics should help.

Society overall seems to be disconnected with the reality of the human condition. Disability and ageism are the two forms of discrimination we will all experience. We will all grow old and develop health conditions.
