I mean if he want like 8-2 in placements in plat 4 then went 10-0 in placements the next day would you say an 18-2 should not be masters?

Just an example discussion, I have no idea what his records were but to me if that's the case that logic kind of makes sense to place high.

I always use League as a comparison.

Using LoL as a comparison probably doesn't work too well as they're different systems for bracketing but I get it. so a 20-0 would be D1-2?

leauge did much harder mmr resets when i played, 20-0 would barely have put you out of plat, maybe not even out of plat
