This is becoming less and less of a problem but I really wish games would stop punishing you for doing side-content by outlevelling the main content and trivializing it.

Side-content reducing difficulty is fine so the option is a good solution. I like clearing areas before moving on and by the time I do that I'm 6 levels ahead and the next area gives me no rewards.
I guess to be more specific, I'm playing Borderlands 3 and I just got to a new area which is giving me quests 10 levels below me. This means I get no XP from kills and no loot worth equipping, so I'm perpetually feeling unrewarded.
