Even though it's clear from the start that the game is different from Souls in a lot of ways, the subtlest and hardest to get used to is giving up all your combat habits. The way that you learned to play in all those games is not what this one is asking from you.
I still haven't gotten used to the fact that there is a jump button for combat T_T

I thought this so many times, against bosses' sweep attacks. Conceptually it's no different from any other things "I recognize the attack, press the right reaction." But even remembering that jump is an option is always taking a brief instant too long.

I was thinking of--how in Souls you wait at the right distance, watch an attack whiff, poke poke, back up again, etc. Here you stop doing any of that against most enemies, which I think is a big success of their combat.
