Sounds like waveclear is ultimately what pushes him into the solo vs other “main tanks”? You still haven’t really told me why he can’t be a main tank though other than delay on CC which all main tanks have.

the delay is much higher on blaze than those heroes you listed while also forcing him to go in (unlike muradin for example) , he can't facecheck , he has no escape since his E can be bodyblocked (ETC goes through , anub has unstoppable and goes through for similar heroes)

I think you hit it on the head there. When Garrosh, Mura, Diablo, Johanna and Anub get caught, they can get out. Blaze's wind up on his E is predictable so it can be blocked and he dies unless he has Bunker up. There are exceptions but this is mostly true.

Hmm, Johanna and Garrosh have no way of escaping either though, unless you count Unstoppable which Blaze can also talent into. Why can't he facecheck with Q or W, same way a Diablo would with W?

Garrosh would not be viable without his unstoppable neither would johanna be but anyways those heroes can peel very well and are just played in defensive comps. Johanna can force fights post 10 which blaze can't he has no engage potential by himself without a flank

blaze can only peel really well with bunker , it's not only about facechecking the bush but about holding the position , Diablo is in a weird spot where he has some obvious weaknesses for a tank but he's more tanky by far than every other , has the best long 2/3

range engage in the game (point and click) and can one shot people. Blaze can't really force or punish like diablo so even if he was as tanky he still wouldn't be as good of a tank

A 50% AoE slow with 2 charges and a 9 second Stun that can hit multiple targets isn't enough for peel? Muradin has 1 skillshot stun and one AoE slow but that doesn't prevent him? I'm trying to drill down what Blaze is "missing" cause he has a lot of the existing elements of a MT.

Muradin is mostly an agressive tank he's really good at forcing fights and finding picks also at taking vision he's not particularly good for peel

True, but Blaze has net way more CC than Muradin can put out and more in-fight survivability, even without Bunker. Furthermore, a ranged directional 50% AoE slow can also set up picks very effectively, enabling follow-up from himself (E) and the team.

Ultimately, I wonder how much is perception based on how he's been used so far and how much is design that would need to shift to accommodate what makes a main tank, but there doesn't seem to be one definitive answer in that debate that everyone can lean against.

Blaze was mostly played in the main tank role on release at least by my team and a few others in EU but I feel like with the current kit he has to be overtuned in the solo lane to be viable as a main tank in 99% of drafts at least
