When Freshwater came out, I refused to align it with DID because people were already trying to erase the Igbo ontology and make it a metaphor for Western diagnoses.

Ada’s root trauma is that she’s a nonhuman entity trapped by embodiment. The violence that comes with embodiment eventually shows up in the ways it does for flesh—dissociating into multiple selves, depression/suicidality, etc.

I wrote about it spiritfirst, just like with
#DearSenthuran, and the selves move spiritfirst because that’s our center. Which is damn near impossible to talk to any therapist about, even spiritual ones. But at least we have the books and in there, our realities are safe
