For everyone who’s asking about work ethic, I have an entire letter about execution in #DearSenthuran! Tbh, anything I would teach in a writing course, I put into the memoir. It’s a manual centered in spirit because my craft is centered in spirit.

I also believe that finishing a book is distinct from writing a book—you can do the latter indefinitely. Thanks to funding, I spent 2014-2016 training myself to finish with Freshwater and Vivek. It was brutal af and now I am very very good at what I do.

I had to be, to survive under capitalism. When I wrote Pet in 2017, I didn’t even have a place to live (which is why I celebrate Shiny). I was suicidal the whole time I wrote Freshwater. The training was so I could finish books even if I was dying. That’s...not a good thing.

But it has kept me safer than this world can. I finished another novel in 2018 and wrote #DearSenthuran in 2019. Last year, I finished another YA novel and wrote CONTENT WARNING: EVERYTHING (@CopperCanyonPrs, 2022) & YOU MADE A FOOL OF DEATH WITH YOUR BEAUTY (@AtriaBooks, 2022).
