Look, there are so many times I’ve woken up from nightmares or had to pull myself out of flashbacks by saying the same exact thing of “I’m safe, I’m in my home now, everything’s okay.” And there’s still so much grief because so many of us *can’t* say that.
I don’t believe in trying to convince bigots to see us as people, but I do want to urge us to take our trauma seriously. This world will dismiss and minimize it, try to make you feel like you’re just playing victim, gaslight tf out of you, but this shit is *real*.
We stay at risk of death by homicide or suicide while these people pretend there’s no blood on their hands for the hateful shit they spread and support. We suffer so fucking much just from existing in a world that wants us dead. It adds up. It scrapes away at your will to live.
You’re not crazy. You’re not exaggerating. Please understand that people will tell you it’s not that serious right up to your eulogy, while genuinely believing they were good allies. This world is not safe for us.
Muting this thread because the transphobes are in my mentions calling Laverne a liar and being quite shitty. I can’t imagine the bullshit Laverne has to deal with from her visibility, my God. This world wants us dead.

THAT part hit me hard too, it's so relatable to the PTSD that I experience. I even say those exact words. It never really goes away bcuz the triggers remain, I've just worked on trying to get control when it happens. Some days I'm more successful than others but I keep fighting.
