What's important when folks call for representation is that it isn't just about people enjoying seeing themselves in magazines, books, films etc, its that it normalizes everyone's existence, and educates about things and people that may not be in your immediate environment.

I read a book a couple of days ago, and one of the characters had a child who was deaf. It wasn't the focal point of the book or a plot line, there was no preaching or advocating. Today was watching a video a girl made complaining about stuff concerning the deaf community,

And I recognized terms she used & devices mentioned because it was casually touched on in the book i read. Again having a deaf daughter wasn't even a thing that was a big deal, a character just SO HAPPENED to have a deaf daughter, something that you know, exists in the world.

And it just makes it so glaringly foolish how we have created this silly stilted world in most books, television, art, etc where everyone is same-abled, everyone is straight, gender conforming, caucasian, etc etc. We wld all be much less ignorant if we showed the world as it is.

People are convinced that things are anomalies because we have spent centuries erasing people who have always existed and when people are fighting for their existence to be normalized, there are those (with the power of course) telling them its "too much". ridiculous.
