If anyone needs to hear this—it's okay to be okay right now, especially if you've been fighting for years to stay alive. You don't have to poke holes in your recovery because you feel you should be suffering more out of solidarity. Stay okay to help those who aren't.
The first half of this tweet is courtesy of my therapist lightly dragging me earlier today.
There's a lot of guilt floating around, but you don't have to self-flagellate to atone for being safe. We should all be safe. I know some are leaning into gratitude to assuage the guilt, but another useful thing is actively helping to get other people to safety.
A reminder that help can have many faces—from redistributing resources to amplifying aid to offering beauty. Do what you can. If staying okay is taking all your bandwidth, that's okay too. You being alive and okay matters because you matter.
