Holy shit. I just got a huge ER bill knocked down by SEVENTY PERCENT because I listened to a Tumblr post that said to call and tell them you can't pay that. I know we all know this but truly, America is a SCAM.
I threw in ‘income has been affected by COVID19’ for good measure and they were like we can put you on a payment plan or give you a discount. I asked how much the discount was, they said 70% and my jaw legit dropped. They didn’t ask me for anything else. That was literally it.

Total scam. My BIL had a huge ER/ambulance bill after a seizure. He called the hospital and said there was no way he could pay it. So they “forgave” his debt.
Every hospital in the US is required to have a charity care program. Eligibility varies. You just have to call and ask because they don’t really offer the info, unless they are non profit.
