Chesa hadn't joined at the start, but the beginning was still pretty compelling. @NancyTungSF led a great discussion on how the SF Democratic Party operates, and how our board of supes has essentially been entirely overtaken by the DSA and progressive wing of the party

When Chesa popped in is when it really got good though – this is one of those "only on clubhouse moments" that make the app so great. He immediately started defending himself and his administration from what the speakers had been saying.

Interesting stuff came up right from the beginning, there was a tangent on a reference in Chesa's wikipedia article to translating for Hugo Chavez that I'd love to see followed up on.

Honestly, Chesa did a pretty great job of defending himself. I'm not the biggest Chesa fan, but listening to him make his points it's clear he's a sharp dude and knows how to represent himself well.

I do wonder how much of his commentary was spin and how much was not, but I have new found respect for a man who can stand up to people who are known opponents and mount a compelling defense. Politics live and in action

Chesa left after
@balajis brought up a Heather Knight story about an attack on someone in SOMA. I thought his question was aggressive but fair, and was pretty bummed to see him leave.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread -
He hadn't gotten any truly combative questions before that, and had instead been doing a lot of pretty interesting monologuing about the way the justice system works in SF.

The way he described the SF justice system made it sound like a project with a ton of tech debt and an interchanging rotation of people coming in and out, that's accumulated a ton of weird bureaucratic rules which no one sticks around long enough to actually fix

The room kind of exploded once Chesa had joined, whereas I don't think that was the intent at all. Then you ended up with other rooms that took offense and seemed to imply the room was racist(???)

To me the room was just intended to be a smaller discussion on SF's various problems that got out of hand and became the biggest room on clubhouse due to how interesting the Chesa discussion was

All in all, another fascinating night on @joinClubhouse . Seeing a politician defend their policies live is awesome, and I wonder how many people's minds were changed from the discussion – I'm not sold on @chesaboudin but I certainly view him a little differently now.
