The Buhari administration has, essentially, criminalised peaceful protests in this country. In a democracy, nobody should ever be arrested and detained for participating in a protest. At worst, protesters should only be fined for disturbing the peace, but never ever detention.
I add the last part reluctantly and only because I know Nigerians love the idea of punishment. But punishment must always fit the offence and the only proportional punishment, if any, is a fine. A peaceful protest may hurt the feelings of people in power, but it isn't a crime.
