Interesting poll this - for those interested in the forthcoming Irish general election. Notable strength of Sinn Féin support amongst voters age 25-50.

Guy that admits to not knowing about viral genomics continues to commentate on genomics despite high profile error in past few days. No, it doesn't seem to mutate rather fast.

Also, worth reiterating: peer review != journal publishing.

Good summary of the supposed risks of pseudoscience in preprints. Such risks affect _all_ science communication, particularly in rapidly moving fields. The solution lies in changing how we review and report science, not making it harder to communicate.

Perhaps best thing we can do to prepare for outbreaks of is lower the risk of flu. It will reduce undifferentiated illnesses presenting to docs, burdens on healthcare system, and of course morbidity. It’s a late peaking flu season. Not too late to get your shot.

" Leading private schools have challenged plans to widen access to the most selective universities in England, warning they could lead to discrimination against young people “on the basis of the class they were born into”. 😂 good one, guys, good one.

A really daft paragraph. Imagine society discriminates against (say) short people. Then as height has a genetic basis, so will discrimination, and so discrimination will built into PGS of traits affected by discrimination.

Here's a PLINK GWAS on simulations of populations in continuous space where the phentoype is just a noisy transformation of location. Even with pretty high dispersal and 10 PC's, you get some pretty convincing LD peaks! (From our preprint )

Some thoughts on the ancient West African forager genomes paper (Nature). The reality is even more complex, as the next tweet will show...

I think fewer people would be excited about moving to Mars if they knew that they’d have to live in deep, shielded caves and that still might not be enough to save them. Good piece by on the hazards of living without a global magnetic field
