Trump supporter Peter Thiel says Facebook political ads bought by Russians didn't make a "material" difference in the 2016 presidential electionhttps://www.axios.com/peter-thiel-says-russia-ads-didnt-help-trump-3126c0af-8a71-40a6-9100-720ded4b0902.html?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=organic&utm_content=1100 …

What's the point of this? Why does Peter Thiel have any unusual insight or authority on this issue?

Actually fair enough makes the line of questioning and what he believes about it at least somewhat pertinent. Doesn't mean it's a good headline and the framing of Thiel as someone who is worth listening to is... questionable... but fair enough.

Of course he would say that. Who would own up to actually having the Russians footprint all over the election using a platform that I receive tons of 💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵from.

If political ads didn't make a difference nobody would buy them.

Not necessarily. You could buy political ads thinking it would make a difference, when in reality it could be a drop in the bucket.

So the hyper focus on Facebook geo targeted ads that the trump camp admitted to meant nothing? Kushner essentially confirm it was vital

"We have not seen overlap in the targeting that was relatively rudimentary used in the [Russian Internet Research Agency] ads that we've disclosed and any other advertiser that's been operative on the site, including the Trump campaign" - Facebook General Counsel Colin Stretch

have to imagine a facebook high level employee isnt going to simply admit that his platform, which continues to make him fabulously wealthy, was manipuated like this right under their noses

Rather hear Thiel explain why he gave Justice Kennedy’s ne’er do well son a no-show job in Oct ‘16 & did Thiel help him land his make-work job at NASA. Who cares what he thinks about FB ads?

Before you fall for this misdirection, watch this week's Frontline 2-part doc. It's not only about the ads. Russian disinformation propaganda & its viral sharing had a multiplier effect on brainwashing low info voters. The Frontline doc is on YouTube.https://youtu.be/T48KFiHwexM

The "ads" bought by the Russian IRA accounts on Facebook were about 3% of the IRA accounts activity. What is missed when referring to the "ads" is all the unpaid activity the accounts engaged in, and that is just Facebook, never mind Twitter, Instagram, Vines, Tumblr, Youtube etc
