It's recommended to upload images whose length to width ratio falls within 2:1-1:2. Anything that falls outside of that ratio will automatically get cropped around its center. Hope this clarifies.

Thanks for the reply... but doesn't that mean you've just cut off creators' ability to use Youtube thumbnails as images in community posts and gif teasers from videos since they are (mostly)16:9?
