Homeopathy is obviously *really* bad for manners. I read only the believers here using foul language and resorting to personal insults. Usually such aggressive denial indicates a deeper insecurity in the stated beliefs - which in your case I could of course understand :-)

Lordy. You should see my twitter feed. The vileness from
#homeopathy skeptics and their desire to degrade others is often quite extraordinary?3 replies 1 retweet 1 like -

I was referring to this thread where IMHO the skeptics have remained quite civil in contrast to some of their opponents. That is also my general impression although there's no doubt there are rude people on both sides. But of course I'm not as exposed as You and so no target ...

Its considerably worse on my end. I've gotten death threats, and do routinely get threats of violence as well.

As DM or in "open" threads? That is of course unacceptable. Could it be that American skeptics tend to be more aggressive (perhaps stressed by living in a religious hothouse compared to Europe ...)?

No, the worst are most definitely the British. I don't know if one still considers them European. And it is on open threads. Twitter alas, while it sporadically stops racism, does nothing, despite many reports.

Some Brits (good question about them still being European :-) have used quite strong language here also. My position is whoever uses the first insult (let alone threat) has lost the discussion by default.

If that is the case, the skeptical movement lost this argument centuries ago, when they derided the great Nature cure, Herbal, and Homeopathic practitioners of the 19th century, rather than honestly evaluate their claims.

Of course I meant losing specific individual discussions, not general scientific arguments.

I'm fine with a little sass and shade, but the extended campaign of harassment I have endured would seem to argue against the skeptical point, if we accepted your idea in this regard. I'm routinely insulted and derided first in these discussions.

Here in Germany we just had a prominent public supporter of Homeopathy compare skeptics critisizing homeopaths with Nazis persecuting jews - on the anniversary of the start of the Holocaust no less ...
