Thinking about emojis as a modern language today. Relevant info/thoughts welcome
@anneejohnson9 When emoji aren't interpreted "correctly," some kind of explanation becomes necessary...which kind of defeats the purpose.

@anneejohnson9 I'm not an anthropologist or a linguist, but I would argue that it's not possible. Too many opportunities to assign subtext. -
@awmccall but couldn't you argue that about any language? Think poetry, changing meanings of words - all subject to different readings -
