I think they’re fun for branding (and beautiful, depending on your typeface), would consider using them in titles, but otherwise no.

Not in body copy. It disrupts flow and timing for the reader. You’re going word word word symbol word word.

Not to mention ampersands aren’t really accessible! What about in titles, navs and headlines?
