I competed around the country for indoor and summer track but my favorite memories are with my team. Winning team regional titles and setting area records with my relay team and individually were the best. I loved competing with and for those guys.

Awesome!! I was also a track athlete and use the example of relays bringing out the best from athletes. As a team, we accomplish more.
-
Exactly. It was so much easier to compete at your best when it is for others. We had 4x4s where my only thought as the anchor leg was “do not let them down. Catch this guy for the other 3 that gave you this chance” and that would bring out my fastest splits.
-
Yes!!! I was a 5/10 guy but coach always threw me in at the 1200m leg of the DMR. I thought he was nuts but he said I’d die before letting teammates down. Nice compliment but hated that race.

Unfortunately 95% or more of HS treat sports as a social event. No cut policies. Not hiring real coaches instead giving jobs to teachers first that know nothing. If the school wanted to be as competitive as the kids it would be something.
-
This is a valid point.
@PHLTsoccer has a fantastic AD who hires and maintains competent and competitive coaches who care about the students. We are extremely fortunate. -
The LPS district AD is on public record saying all coaching spots should go to teacher. Even though the schools in Lincoln are urging mileage guidelines for NSAA reimbursement she won’t consider letting softball teams stay in Hastings even at parents expense.
-
That’s rough. Dang. Hope it improves in the future.

I would, if high schools helped/mattered with recruiting
-
Some coaches actually step up at help. Coach Bell
@PHLTsoccer has called, emailed and texted coaches constantly for all of his players. He drops everything to help them. Very honored to be around this program. -
I don’t know a single coach whose worth anything that doesn’t pick up the phone and call college coaches when he/she has an athlete who 1) works hard 2) does the work academically 3) has some ability and 4) expresses an interest in playing at the next level
-
I love that the recruiting myth is still as strong as ever. People pay clubs more money then they receive in scholarships, if parents saved that money up they could pay for college. I coached HS, ODP and Clubs every player who wanted to play college did no matter their path 14-18
-
Strong as ever bc it’s not a myth
-
I recruited NAIA, NCAA D1-D3, and teams in Europe for 20 years now, its a myth that high schools don't matter with recruiting. If anything it helps with coaches voting on awards (league, district and state), hand picked teams (Club) vs. mixed teams (HS), college is more like HS.
-
Using that last sentence there, College would be more like clubs since they pick who they offer scholarships too... last I checked it was illegal for high schools to recruit and/or hand pick their players
-
Good point but there are those schools who accept paid enrollment from “students” regardless of home state.

Probably the greatest statement ever made about HS sports and club sports
-
Truly appreciate it-comes from the heart and have a great mentor at both my club and high school. I coach both.

My daughter was an elite youth swimmer who participated for several club teams. Traveled all over the country competing. Captain at Missouri State University her senior year. Her best swimming experience? Winning a team state championship representing Blue Springs High School.
-
Amazing story! Wonderful to read! My daughter can’t remember half the club tournaments or titles we’ve won! This is something she’ll never forget along with the bonds she has with her teammates. Unbreakable.
