- There is no silver bullet - tradeoffs in designing complex systems are everywhere. - You must always be user-centric when designing protocols - if the protocol you are designing is not usable by real users in the real world then it doesn't matter that it is secure and elegant.
- Be humble. Always under promise and over deliver and not over promise and under deliver and don't promise too soon before usability of the tech in the real world has been verified... Don't promise things based on an MVP with an unclear user experience...
And knowing some of the great guys working on plasma research - they have good intentions and are smart good engineers who are highly optimistic - from their perspective the impl was likely just a POC and it was the right to try to implement to learn.
But the whole point of a POC is to learn if the user experience is satisfactory or really bad - it is hard to figure out in advance just by looking at a protocol what an implementation will FEEL like...
