when I talk about a problem on Twitter, I get a lot of comments suggesting "hey have you tried X?". A lot of them are useful suggestions, and a lot of them are suggesting something that wouldn't work / misunderstands the problem!

haha i find reading stack overflow questions stressful, the culture there is weird!
-
That's an interesting phenomenon! I noticed people saying this, and also i find many results to my problems on GitHub issues instead of SO (especially for newer, smaller tools).
-
I'm surprised bc when SO started, I found it godsent! I found it way harder to follow solutions in forums, lists and issues.
-
But it is changing! And it makes sense: it is much harder to take part in SO today. I often half-joke that the best questions are already asked and answered.
-
Also we live a Cambrian explosion of tools. It is less likely someone would know about, dunno, npm module in SO than someone knowing about let's say JSF.
-
I'm intrigued about that and concerned too bc I really like that community and it is very helpful to me!
-
(Well, sorry for the flood, I was thinking a lot about it these days and your thread triggered my verbosity
) To try to make it a bit useful: how would you feel more comfortable on SO? -
don't know! stack overflow is useful sometimes but I don't see myself actually posting a question there.
