The only game I ever got far in writing was a split-screen 4-player first-person perspective lightcycle game. It was fun but very hard. I remember that it rendered frames as fast as it could, with no clock, so when one player died, the others would speed up.

My older brother had somewhat more success with an isometric-projection 3D pong game, which was featured in Compuserve Magazine as the most-downloaded Mac shareware game for that month.
