I've definitely had (and made) some delicious pestos with cilantro + sunflower seeds, but I'd never call brownie batter "pesto".

hmm... interesting, seem to be two different roots - latin for “pounded” vs greek for “porridge”.
Oh, neat! I always assumed that pasta was cognate with "paste". Wikipedia claims that eventually they trace back to a cognate PIE root.
