This uses a chrome extension to do the same thing as my old https://github.com/avibryant/phantomsync …. Would love for it to also gather position data.https://twitter.com/homsit/status/912574063389810688 …

thanks for the shoutout Avi :) by position data do you mean the location/page where the highlight was taken? (we collect+surface that!)

no, I mean (totally separate from highlights) just what the last read location is at any given time, to record reading patterns

ie which books got read fast vs slow, or were left incomplete then returned to etc.

ah, gotcha 😍 that data would be amazing. Last I checked I think you need the device plugged in for it, but may be worth digging further..

Looks like the startReading endpoint returns it as lastPageReadData.

the _really_ interesting piece would be if we could sync in regular intervals (ie in the background) to get the progress over time...

how does your chrome extension deal with that right now? I assumed it was already doing some kind of background sync.

unfortunately not, you've got to hit https://readwise.io/resync  and go through the process right now.

folks don't usually mind as the main usecase right now is resurfacing older highlights, so they'll only resync once they eg finish a book
