None of these alternatives is pragmatically equivalent to "guys" in my dialect/idiolect. Why give this advice over "avoid collective terms"?

(Also, in my dialect "hey guys" *is* fully gender-neutral. I use it to address exclusively female groups. I recognize that's not universal.)
