Motivation: kinda want something like a DJI Phantom but would feel silly not being able to control it programatically. /cc @starsandrobots

@rich0H "drone" "open source" "uses BLE" "has no firmware to support these sensors" siiigh@avibryant -
@starsandrobots@rich0H so maybe I'm being dense here, but: if you can bind an arbitrary 3rd party RC Tx to commercial drones... (1/2) -
@starsandrobots@rich0H ... can't there be a Tx that plugs into USB and relays instructions from the computer instead of the sticks? -
@starsandrobots@rich0H or is that pointless since you can't get any sensor info back? -
@avibryant@rich0H I haven't used one but some brief searching turned up this http://www.endurance-rc.com/pctx.php and http://milehighwings.com

@avibryant Have you seen mavlink? Not simple yet, but it's being worked on: https://github.com/diydrones/droneapi-python … -
@lemonodor@avibryant does that work with the hubsan x4? -
@zaxtax@avibryant Works with Ardupilot, AR.Drone, PX4, SMACCMPilot etc. Kind of the standard open drone protocol at the moment. -
@lemonodor super helpful, thanks. This is pushing me towards an IRIS; any experience with them or with 3DR in general? -
@avibryant My 3DR experience is out of date.@thrusty? - 1 more reply

@avibryant attitude control demands near real time as pilot has to react to perceived changes rapidlyThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@avibryant latency. Downward camera on ar drone enables fine grained positional control without gps fix. No other quad offers that iircThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
