@avibryant @johnbender particularly silly when there are so many *good* reasons.

@avibryant@BrianTRice -- next thing you know they'll reject one that does not have "operators" using elementary math precedence. oh, wait.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@avibryant@BrianTRice -- the technical sophistication of a programming community that rejects a language because it uses 1-indexes. -
@coreload@avibryant@BrianTRice if only@DylanLanguage could get some more love. -
@ArmyOfBruce@coreload@avibryant or Slate! I feel like we could have reached Julia's development arc with better connections. -
@BrianTRice@ArmyOfBruce@avibryant -- so many good languages. so few popular languages are good. we're still in our infancy as a profession

@avibryant How is Julia, in your opinion? -
@arsatiki I think it's a huge breath of fresh air; a sophisticated implementation of a thoughtful language design. -
@avibryant Thanks! More reasons to try it out then.

@avibryant "programmers" like this remind me why I'll probably always have a job -
@gfodor@avibryant if only trolling@StefanKarpinski on 1-indexing paid better, I would also always have a job -
@mcfunley@gfodor@StefanKarpinski if 1-indexing was good enough for@daningalls, it's good enough for me. -
@avibryant@mcfunley@gfodor@daningalls this is my entire commentary on the subject: http://goo.gl/fCx2K7 -
@StefanKarpinski@avibryant@mcfunley it would be helpful if they could just embed that wav file to play on HN comments pages

@avibryant To me, the fundamental question is: is all the hype worth it even if some people get upset? -
@johnmyleswhite depends on your goals. Hype increases the absolute signal of contributions at the cost of massively decreasing the S/N ratio -
@avibryant Agree. But I suspect most languages benefit more from former than latter. -
@johnmyleswhite it's a different phase. Similar to how after a startup launches, velocity goes way down because customers are distracting. -
@johnmyleswhite I loved the Ruby community pre-Rails, and dropped out post-Rails because of all the noise. But it was good for Ruby overall.

@avibryant I love the comparisons I see of "X is faster than Y! `time X -v` < `time V -v`!"Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
