      So Facebook's Buck, like Twitter's Pants, is an OSS clone of Google's Blaze build system, but only for Android and with fewer laundry jokes?

      @avibryant it can be used for java projects too... Gerrit uses buck to build for example

      @cra it would be nice if pants got more love as a standalone project (last time I tried to use it I couldn't even get it to build itself).

      @avibryant @cra It looks to me like pants is the "over-the-wall" model. I don't see the value of that model to the open-sourcers.

          @HiveTheory @slyphon @avibryant No easy way out. But the over the wall gets more work from outside and associated benefits of recruiting.

          @posco @slyphon @avibryant IMO we get as much from recruiting w/ @finagle as we do from @scalding. Pants needs to leave twitter/commons.

          @HiveTheory @marius @slyphon @avibryant I think having a bigger team dedicated to it may help, I don't think outside/inside is the diff.

          @avibryant @posco @cra @JorgeO It wasn't deliberately OSSed at first, but it was needed for twitter.commons, and 4sq started using it.

          @posco @avibryant @cra @JorgeO In fact, pants is fast enough for non-scala that you don't need distributed build.

          @posco @avibryant @cra @JorgeO and for scala, you're bounded by type analysis time, which means that distribution doesn't help much.

          @posco @avibryant @cra @JorgeO Sure, different library tests could run concurrently. But compilation in scala is a nightmare.
