You can't write anything off because it's small. By the time you hit 1% in an exponential process, you're almost done.
@patrickc you can write off exponential growth as requiring specialized conditions - fires, bacteria, social networks grow fast then stop.

@patrickc slightly different. The shape of the market matters as well as the size. Dense center + sparse edges = fast growth then slow.
