@marcprecipice: regardless, it's an interesting problem. Balancing desires for consensus vs. autonomy in a large eng org is hard.

@rcoder @marcprecipice Autonomy scales much better than consensus. See: object-oriented programming, cellular biology, free markets.

@andrewcatton: Agreed re: scaling, but at the cost of lots of reinvention. Not inherently a bad thing, but it has a cost. /cc @marcprecipice

@rcoder @marcprecipice Allows you to decide to avoid reinvention on an opt-in, case-by-case basis, rather than no-choice, everywhere always.

@andrewcatton @rcoder @marcprecipice with the right culture, shared codebase can grant more autonomy than APIs - except wrt tech stack.

@avibryant @rcoder @marcprecipice That rings false to me at least in <=140 character form. Curious to hear the longer version though.

@andrewcatton @rcoder @marcprecipice but, yes, this is probably a longer form discussion. We should do an Eng Manager Podcast :)

@kevinweil @wm @marcprecipice @rcoder @andrewcatton this is why we need something exclusive like branch; keeps the PMs out of the discussion
