A neat, tractable, and maybe useful trick would be to do reverse-mode autodifferentiation on a constrained but practical subset of JVM bytecode. Then you'd get gradients for any of Java/Scala/Clojure numeric code.

if you're ok with limiting to scala, it has a nice and clean little AST. With macros this is entirely possible. Not quite on bytecode level, but close enough.
