Even with the time manipulation and editing in this video, it still just looks like a reporter shaking his left hand while an aide grabs his right hand. So @PressSec is revoking credentials and using obviously doctored video footage made by InfoWars for cover now.https://twitter.com/PressSec/status/1060374680991883265 …

There are two very common, very easy-to-spot tricks here. First, they slow down the overall speed of the encounter- this makes every movement feel more intentional. They've also cut frames to decrease the duration of his hand gesture, so it appears quicker- like a karate chop.

I think it's more than just time manipulation. I think her arm is sped up while his is kept in normal time, so that it looks like there's more contact than there really was.

It’s a super messy forensics job, @cwarzel has a very good analysis up here: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/charliewarzel/acosta-video-trump-cnn-aide-sarah-sanders … But the fact that we are even debating such ideas... 🤦🏻‍♂️

Yeah, fair. As I look more at the red-overlaid version it does seem like it might just be time manipulation (or, fine, extremely conveniently dropped frames from some GIF compression process.)

It reminds me of the kind of dumb Premiere/Final Cut Pro tricks I used to do as a baby freelance videographer to make dance performances and magic shows look cooler. It's easy to make motions "snap" with time curves, both products do it out of the box (with frame blending too)

Not to mention the close cropping, the repeating of a single second over and over again, cutting out the moment before. It's predictable at this point that the people who cry most loudly about media manipulation are the ones who do it the most egregiously

Corollary: the ones that are quickest to call their opponents snowflakes are the ones who have the thinnest skin for tough questioning.
