I still haven't figured out how to compare the utility of the glowforge to the various 3d printer technologies. They seem to have more overlapping use cases than I would have initially guessed.

A killer feature for me with the glowforge is being able to work at the extremes of wood (for very high quality finished pieces) and cardboard (for basically free prototypes).

And the constraint of assembling 3D shapes from 2D pieces keeps every step of the workflow simple, though obviously you hit a wall sometimes.
