Inequality has been stable/fallen a bit over that period. But I suspect it's something non-economic: maybe things like improvements in health, crime? Maybe improvements in technology? But that's all speculation
Increased incomes, falling crime, and relatively low unemployment?
The @resfoundation report I took the chart from looks at economic factors and finds they only explain a small fraction of the increase. I agree crime (and health perhaps too) are plausible explanations
Considering we were promised the end of the world in 2000 more than in any other year, everything after that can be perceived as "wow, we're still alive, let's party!"
P.S. but really not a lot to be happy about at the large scale
