Yes, going to Aldi in Germany in the late nineties looked vaguely like that 
What changed since then? I love Aldi. Primarily for the prices but only having one of each commodity is a big bonus. That said, total selection is also very constrained which is why the next stop is usually Kroger to fill in gaps. Cuban store looks pretty limited as well.
I moved away from Germany and am not sure have I visited an Aldi since. At least not as frequently as I did then
