Honestly, I get bored by any discussion of "self-help" that denies the reality and prevalence of suffering. Forget self-improvement, it's just not as interesting as finding hope and meaning and connection.

Apologies, as this probably isn’t the best venue for such a long response, however I felt compelled to respond. Your work is excellent. Thank you for elucidating an enlightened path. Some would rather die of thirst than drink from the cup of mediocrity.

Rather one needs realize that something or someone can be, can not be, be both at the same time, be many things of every variation and none all at once.

There are many levels of desire and as I suggested, over simplifies what is complex, some times even contradictory and paradoxical. The right answer is not ‘yes’ or ‘no’....

The writer himself and many of those who suggest mediocrity, are hypocrites when they have attained some measure of success and self satisfaction, as well as status in their lives.

Further, millions have been started on the path of reflection, even if misdirected, they are at least trying. They know something is wrong. That there is a component of their selves not realized. The problem lies in that few become empowered enough to find their true path.

I feel he’s over simplifying these ideas and banalizing them. He mis-referenced Apollo and Plato. Further he fails to see outside of the negative exploitative progression of bettering the self.

The writer of the article "Improving ourselves to death" does not consider that NOTHING IN THIS UNIVERSE STAYS THE SAME. It is a fundamental law. It goes “up” or down. Only Progress makes happy. Also taking your “quiet time” can be necessary for improvement. Keep on progressing!

Depression, anxiety and PTSD is not WHO you are. You might have any of this, but do not mistake problems as yourself!

Ge a full insight into just what ‘PTSD’ is by reading http://ptsd.net . Complicated. Definitely not as depicted in the APA’s DSM 5.
