New study says gaming addiction is not real. It's a coping mechanism for other issues (as I argued in Super better!)https://culturedvultures.com/amp/study-suggests-gaming-addiction-not-real-condition/ …

This can technically be true of any process addiction.

Exactly. Even heroine addiction is significantly lower amongst populations with low mental health issues.

I would say that all addiction stems from escapism and gaming would be no exception

I think nearly all addiction is self-medication in some form or other. Or at least begins that way.

Addiction is a way to fill a void in life. Fill the void and addiction goes away. Addiction is feedback not a sign of personal failure.

I wonder when the news comes up with addiction to evil escapism, but maybe that's too much abstraction for easy clickbait.😑

Between the ages of 10-15 i spent more than a half year of game time on an MMORPG. You could say I was coping(I was) or that i was addicted.

I love games but I have to say... all addictions are coping mechanisms. Some games actively try to target the reward system of theirplayers.
