any advice/sympathy/wisdom from fellow runners much appreciated! is it masochistic to race even if it trashes the immune system?

@avantgame push thru pain (to an extent) but don't push thru illness. I don't think the runnings gods want to make you ill/weak.

@leilamelendez the point is I come down with a bad cold 24 hours later... not running through pain or illness, I feel great during the run!

@scottdot that's too bad! I've been running for 21 years and fortunately none of that yet.

@avantgame I have never gotten sick after 4 marathons & 7 half marathons. I'm sure the travel doesn't help. Post race nutrition is huge

@avantgame Depends on what you're trying to optimize. To put it another way, what game are you playing & how do you compute the score? ;-)

@avantgame I think best runs are the ones where you say I don't care about time, just here to finish and have fun, 21k not as hard that way

@avantgame Honestly, that's the reason I only run half-marathons. I feel amazing after them, and it doesn't wear off/down into being trashed

@avantgame So maybe it's a matter of finding a sweet spot of how far you can run and not have that effect. Do THAT distance more often.
