Cash incentives are huge in health care gamification and that worries me. Motivation needs to be long term and intrinsic.

@avantgame Do you think it's naive to believe that extrinsic motivation can jump start intrinsic motivation?

@StefanSpinnler definitely not but don't call it game design and check the science... Almost all studies show harms to motivation ongoing.

@avantgame @habitrpg gets that frequently from smart people who don't quite understand our user base, who are motivated by in-game items.

@avantgame But current @habitrpg cheaters disappear after a day or two, while real users stick around because they see real life results.

@WRG_AlwynVenter @avantgame It’s the obvious to do as incentive and at the same time the least effective (short and especially long term) :(

@avantgame @zdch I work in the workplace wellness business, we gamify everything and cash incentive very little. Good message.

@avantgame probably motivates the wrong people, those who are interested in cash vs those who are interested in health.

@avantgame can cash incentives be used to bridge to better internal motivators? eg, paired w social rewards then weaned from cash?
