@avantgame I've only been interviewed once & they 100% paraphrased me. Always thought that was essentially illegal. I guess not. Very lame.

@raygungirl@avantgame What exactly do you mean when you say they paraphrased you? Did it have quote marks around it? -
@niltiac@raygungirl I'm saying, totally made up sentences that I would never say. Like the example I gave. -
@avantgame@raygungirl A made-up sentence with actual quote marks around it is really crappy. I'm sceptical it "happens all the time" though

@avantgame As a former newspaper reporter, I agree that this happens often. Contact a desk or section editor, then the editorial board.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@avantgame I DO complain, but it gets me nowhere. Now I push for written Q&As, effectively trading natural for accurate. It's unsettling. - 1 more reply

@avantgame ever had journalist try to feed you the quote? Asking ? in such a way that you'll repeat it back? They then "quote you."Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@avantgame Also, I know some of my errors came from simply writing too fast & reading my notes incorrectly, not from a desire to fabricate. -
@MsHoughton@avantgame Not that that made it OK.

@avantgame@saleemkhan journos record their interviews so they can back up their words. If you didn't say smthg, easy to prove. -
@tamera@avantgame 2343ET Many journalists don't record interviews, especially if it's a brief one, i.e. under 10-15 minutes. -
@saleemkhan@avantgame that's ridiculous - how can they verify for an editor that what they're reporting is truthful? -
@tamera@avantgame 2345ET It's a common misconception that news organizations use fact-checkers to verify quotes, etc.
