California has a chance to heed the advice of pediatricians & push back school start times for teenagers. It's controversial. But the choice distills to this: Do we make education policy based on what's right for kids or what's convenient for adults?https://www.dailynews.com/2018/09/13/both-sides-lobbying-california-governor-on-bill-to-delay-school-start-time-for-teens/ …

Argument is that kids won't use time for more sleep but instead more social media at night, etc
-
But that's not what happens when schools do this. That idea has been disproven.
-
Yes but that's the narrative that needs to be overcome

Bullshit is not a narrative; this insanity starts early: My daughter went from pre-K start at 9:20am with naps to public kindergarten with no naps and a 7:20am start. She's exhausted after getting home. She sleeps through dinner at times and struggles to get up at 6:00 am. BS!

Will the kids eat healthy? Will they actually get up? Should parents be concerned about other kids coming over while the single mom takes off for work at 7 am? Sometimes it's just easier to tell those kids to get their ass to bed earlier.

Some parents don't have the flexibility to start work later. Knowing the teenager IS up and out the door with the stressed parent is peace of mind. Given to their own accord, who knows what teenagers will do in a parentless house.
