I hear you. I'm still really confused how/why WHO decided to classify 'gaming disorder' before establishing clearly defined diagnosis criteria and evidence based treatment protocols.

as far as I can tell they were heavily lobbied by well-meaning clinicians who want to be able to get their treatment programs reimbursed by insurance so patients can afford them. that's my understanding

I'm sure very well intended, but the move is premature. From what I understand there are usually underlying anxiety related disorders associated with problematic play - would make sense for clinicians to treat those until researchers get closer to consensus.
