Plot twist: at the time, selling alcoholic beverages after 11 PM was outlawed I did find vodka eventually, but they were still too scared to wake up the person responsible for the door :/

Story time 1st job = moving furniture. 1st coding paycheck came at night. I'M RICH NOW Ran out of the hostel (slippers & no socks! excited), bought a ton of food. Came back, the door was shut. "We'll open up if you bring vodka" Russian winter, 2 AM, no socks, looking for vodka

From which it would follow that the sixth stage is not "more of the fifth stage", but something LH-ish again

I had to get a background check for my job, and it turns out the report is a 300+ page pdf of every single tweet I’ve ever liked with the work “fuck” in it. Enjoy your dystopian bs! *waves*

Because of those diminishing returns it can feel like you're "stuck" - no matter how much progress you make you're not getting any better. It's because you're focusing on too low a level.

Thesis: for any given field you need to learn three categories of things: 1. How to act correctly 2. How to think correctly 3. How to feel correctly Higher numbers require a foundation of lower, but if you don't develop the higher the lower rapidly hit diminishing returns.

And there is a paradigm that is sorta missing: values Jonathan Haidt's /The Righteous Mind/ goes in that direction, but doesn't quite get there

Joe Edelman's makes explicit an awesome idea: solutions to problems operate inside very different paradigms of what is "ultimately" important to people (goals, beliefs, status, etc) People from different paradigms have a hard time talking to each other

Previous policy: — keep my options open and try to retain access to everything (what if I want to pick up guitar again at some point, what if somebody at %old job% still wants to write me, etc) New policy: — the opposite

Now I just need a catchy name for "your stuff BUT"; any advice?

I have spent an ungodly amount of time trying to deal with a %mess%, and I have an Observation: — Your stuff: good — Someone else's stuff: ok — Your stuff BUT someone else decides what to do with it (or how it can and can't be used, etc): a mess is inevitable

13/ P.S. It's probably pretty different if you are doing research for a book / thesis / whatever, or generally if you have a genuine need to not forget a lot of stuff that can all prove to be useful eventually, as opposed to "figure things out"

12/ Overall: I think Zettelkasten will be a good tool in the thought-processing toolbox – where "processing" is a pretty vague thing

11/ With Zettelkasten, it's easier to recall things you care about, but harder to see/decide that you don't want to care about something anymore (unless you have been very strict with categorization, but then you don't get some of the Zettelkasten benefits).

10/ Finally, an unlimited canvas is not strictly better than a limited one. Forcing myself to put things into several buckets sometimes leads to interesting results. But more importantly, with different buckets I can explicitly put a bucket away. "Not interested in this anymore"

9/ The second is – writing things down *in public* is still different from writing them in private. The process of organizing knowledge creates new knowledge / new relations, and different audience = different relations. With Zettelkasten, the audience is always you.
