Yeah I was there - it was the thing that prompted me to think about addictive and copied aesthetics as doing the same thing - faking an honest signal, and in doing so, destroying it.

aw thanks Jess. The basic pitch for beauty-as-PoW is just that a lot of artifacts that seem beautiful to us have the quality of being hard to make but also easy to verify (as having been difficult). I don’t think it’s a feature of all beautiful things, but many!pic.twitter.com/hIcRlblMsz
