The idea of picking your favorite books from among those stocked in a small town library or bookstore sounds ludicrous today, now that everyone basically has access to a big chunk of entire world’s book catalog.
But we’re still kinda expected to pick out friends that way.

Interestingly, when replying to how you found your spouse, any sentence starting w/ "Optimizing…" will seem creepy, while going to a party & getting drunk will seem just normal I guess, according to popular culture, the morale is that alcohol helps you make important decisions

Getting drunk may solve everything (according to popular culture). It's fine to optimize for: location, looks, fitness, popularity,… everything; if in the last moment Bacchus' beverage gives the control to Cupid, because it's not meant to be a rational decision.
