I want to spend more of my 'news' reading time reading things with longer timescales. Less 'look what Trump did today' and more 'look what humanity has done as a whole in the last year or 500'. Mostly I find boring thinktanks, although there's some good stuff. Suggestions?

Specifically, overall strategies over individual sources, although sources help too. I probably need to stick to feeds over static sources. Tried and failed at Flipboard.

Our World in Data? https://ourworldindata.org/  Wonkish, not narrative, but some great stuff IMO.

If you want one notch longer time-scale for news-related topics, Things That Matter by Charles Krauthammer is pretty good. A easy to skim collection of his work covering three decades of American politics

People consume news to find out what’s going on in the world. It does the opposite - it tells you what’s rare.

Books. Jean brought back a pile of books just yesterday that included lots of deep history, eg: - A Little History of Economics https://amzn.to/2lHtEeE  (part of a series of such books) - Talking to My Daughter About the Economy https://amzn.to/2tJGmgC  (by Greek Fin. minister)

Seems Yanis Varoufakis, the second author, has a blog that might include most of the writing found in his books:https://www.yanisvaroufakis.eu/
